Caution with Clichés (Kung iisipin mong muli, parang may kaunting mali.)

Here are 14 separate wall posts of mine that I gathered together.  They are those that resist or refute some of our popular proverbs and convictions. Take your time in trying to absorb each one (again, these were originally singular posts), perhaps skip those that you don't find interesting, or deal with the rest at another time upon encountering discomfort and/or boredom. =)

1.
Ang lumakad nang matulin,
kung matinik ay malalim.

Totoo. =)

2.
What I don't like about "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again" is the possible interpretation that one ought to stick to his first strategy until it works. The constant focus is the End (success), not the Initial Step (first). A creative flexible person can proceed with so many ways to attain success or his one goal; he can afford to give up on a strategy because he has so much more up his sleeve. And thus:

If at first you don't succeed, surrender! There are so many ways to skin a cat. =))

3.

"ANG HINDI LUMINGON SA PINANGGALINGAN, 'DI MAKARARATING SA PAROROONAN." becomes problematic when its promoters fail to see that this proverb assumes the presence of a clear vision (paroroonan). Yes, one cannot reach his goal without adherence to this proverb. But this proverb should not even be brought up without a deep desire for or a good grasp of the goal.

Otherwise, it's just stunting conservatism... in the guise of wise advice.

4.
I am not a big fan of the slogan "Slowly but surely.", especially when people focus more on the word SLOWLY than on SURELY. SLOWLY is just one of the many ways to SURELY, which is still not an end in itself; it just marks the beginning of deeper conviction, passion and commitment for a pursuit. People want to get to SURELY to eventually get rid of SLOWLY, because people who are SURE find "slowly" quite painful.

5.
Hindi, pare. Kahit lagi mo nang sinasabi, masyado pa ring premature at passive 'yang pagdadahilan mong, "It takes Time."

Bago mo sana ginamit 'yan, pinaniwalaan mo munang, "It takes Me."

6.
I don’t totally agree with “Time is gold.”  And it’s dangerous to believe so because we could become slaves of Time, slaves who are so set in not wasting it.  I’d rather perceive Time as a Treasure Chest, then it will be YOU who would have to decide what gold and treasures you will put in it.

Thus I can afford to not prioritize time, the way I could afford to waste time with my kids.

7.
Those who don’t speak up are too focused on Self-Preservation and Benefiting from Others.

9.
"Don't fix it if it's not broken" daw.

But if your "not-broken" is weak, mediocre, outdated, and has not maximized its full potential --

10.
Don’t judge a book by its cover.”  This is a message for the supposed Judge.

But here’s a message for the supposed Book:
“Sometimes, a book is judged by its cover because readers find out that the only thing it has invested on is its cover, not its content.

There's just really nothing else to evaluate.” =))

11.
Aanhin mo pa ang damo
kung patay na ang kabayo?

Uhmm..

12.
"It takes two to tango."

Excuse me. Who said I'm doing Tango? I'm doing my own Dance of Joy!
Solo, may kapartner, grupo..., ayos na ayos ako!

13.
Only by the end of a journey will a True Leader be able to say that he has LED others. During the journey, his true main preoccupation was to SERVE.

14.
